Default 25 Best Wrestlers 2000-2009: Full List Posted

In the interest of getting this out there I've decided to just post the list. Narratives/justifications about why I did what will be forthcoming.

Again, no one still competing will be on this list. The most basic description of my ranking formula is that its based on statistical finishes, combined with some subjectivity by me. Pins are a big tiebreaker.

    1. Cael Sanderson: 1/1/1/1 (159-0, 61 pins)
    2. Stephen Abas: 4/1/1/1 (144-4, 32 pins)
    3. Ben Askren: 2/2/1/1 (153-8, 91 pins)
    4. Greg Jones: 1/DNP/1/1 (126-4, 25 pins)
    5. Jake Herbert: 3/2/1/1 (134-4, 49 pins)
    6. Jake Rosholt: 1/3/1/1 (105-20, 23 pins)
    7. TJ Williams: DNW/1/3/1 (98-1, 12 pins)
    8. Steve Mocco: 2/1/1/2 (137-6, 56 pins)
    9. Joe Heskett: 3/2/2/1 (143-10, 58 pins)
    10. Mark Perry: 2/3/1/1 (101-16, 40 pins)
    11. Johnny Thompson: 2/1/1/3 (127-14, 31 pins)
    12. Johny Hendricks: 5/1/1/2 (127-13, 26 pins)
    13. Eric Juergens: 3/3/1/1 (120-13, 23 pins)
    14. Teyon Ware: 1/6/1/2 (112-15, 21 pins)
    15. Cole Konrad: 4/2/1/1 (155-13, 50 pins)
    16. Eric Larkin: 4/3/2/1 (120-12, 36 pins)
    17. Chris Pendleton: DNP/3/1/1 (115-11, 32 pins)
    18. Tommy Rowlands: 2/1/6/1 (164-15, 30 pins)
    19. Troy Letters: 2/1/3/DNP (109-6, 30 pins)
    20. Jesse Jantzen: DNP/3/3/1 (131-13, 50 pins)
    21. Travis Lee: 7/1/5/1 (143-13, 27 pins)
    22. Ryan Bertin: 6/1/3/1 (117-19, 12 pins)
    23. Josh Koscheck: 4/2/1/3 (127-17, 17 pins)

No question in my mind, these 5......
    21. Travis Lee: 7/1/5/1 (143-13, 27 pins)
    22. Ryan Bertin: 6/1/3/1 (117-19, 12 pins)
    23. Josh Koscheck: 4/2/1/3 (127-17, 17 pins)
    24. Donny Pritzlaff: 6/5/1/1 (135-16, 27 pins)
    25. Damion Hahn: 5/5/1/1 (118-21, 8 pins)

    .....should be above Jantzen
    20. Jesse Jantzen: DNP/3/3/1 (131-13, 50 pins)

Yea Jantzen has 50 pins, but aside from the fact he was only a 3 timer, you have to consider the quality of the competition Jantzen had in the Ivy League versus the others including the B10.

Koscheck should be up in 16-18 territory with Larkin. The guy never finished lower than 4th.

When I responded to your original accusation I hadn't formulated anything yet.

In terms of the actual list I actually originally had Lee and Bertin above Jantzen.

I thought about it though, and I think that Jantzen hit a level when he was a senior (Lee and Bertin were both juniors this year) that was higher than any that Lee and Bertin ever got to. Hence why he gets the ranking.

Were this just a numbers analysis like my one last year was both Jantzen and Letters would have been lower.

Using htis same logic why is Konrad seven places lower than Mocco?

Can't argue with improvement, but when you look at those four and "body of work" (god I hate that expression) over fours years, then they have to top Jantzen's special year. Don't forget he bumped to 57 that year and took a loss, so maybe he wasn't as dominant as one might think. Also, that was an off year for comp in 149 class. Esposito was green and Churella was sucking way too much weight.

    6. Jake Rosholt: 1/3/1/1 (105-20, 23 pins)

Geez, why do I dislike this rank for Rosholt. I know, 3 titles, but geez, 20 losses. I just don't see him as being 6th best. Maybe too much on counting titles?

Mocco has the better numbers, and won better weight classes.

I love King Cole and would have loved to try and find a way to stick him higher but I had to pop him for the absolutely barren weight class that he competed in as a senior.

    Okay, Herbert plug time.

"Again, no one still competing will be on this list."

The season is over and he's done competing collegiately.

I say stick him on the list and bump............... You know when you revise this next year he's on the list, so why wait?
