Dake vs Taylor, who wins?

I remember Humphery being interviewed about the match a while ago... sounded like he was frustrated with Dake's size and strength.

Tom: Humphrey sometimes struggled on bottom. The decision to take neutral was a calculated one. He may have escaped--Dake wasn't quite as good on top then as he is now. My criticism is more that he didn't attack more to avoid ride-outs when he obviously felt Dake was better on the mat.

Knowing what we know about Dake NOW one can understand that level of caution. But as great as Humphrey was then, it's hard to see him giving that much caution to Dake when he was a true FR.

Thanks, armspin. Maybe it wasn't so much caution as just a physical advantage to Dake. But still, how many true FR have a physical advantage over a 4th or 5th year senior? Dake has always seemed big for his weight. If he goes up to 165, maybe it will be the first time that he's not.

I don't think Dake will even be remotely undersized at 165, at least in college. Maybe at the international level but not in NC2A.

After reading that, I am curious as to how you think Dake will score his points. Do you think he will get a takedown through a scramble? Is so, okay. I just didn't read anywhere where you thought Dake was going to score points. I don't think he will turn Taylor, but he might. I just read where you gave him the edge in defense but didn't mention where you thought he would score his own points.

Personally, I give Taylor the edge b/c of his takedowns. But Dake does have great defense. Was he taken down at all last year?

Quinn, yes, I believe Dake will score his points out of the scramble. Basically, I believe the match will be wrestled at neutral - I dont think either of the wrestlers will choose down. And I believe Dake and Taylor will each get one TD (Dake because of his superior scrambling ability defense, and Taylor because of his superior offense). But I believe Dake will escape, and Taylor will not. And I don't think either wrestler will turn the other. So, I guess I am predicting 4-2 Dake (by riding time). But I am looking forward to it regardless of what happens.

Actually dback, I think Dake's best NCAA win was his FR year against Humphreys in the semifinals. His beating of Molinaro in the finals was quite impressive, but Molinaro was much better his SR year. As a true FR to beat Humphreys was mighty impressive, and more impressive than beating Marion IMO.

Wow, i forgot about that match, and you are correct. It was a more impressive win than over Marion at the time.
