Jammen--I suspect your comment is tongue-in-cheek. But, taken as written for the sake of argument, I think OU would do better this year with Howe & Rutt counting for the team championship in the old system, rather than the following year under National Duals system. I think their value is even higher in the old system. And, this year they will have Patterson, but not the following year. Just for sake of discussion. I suspect the real reason is to give Howe more time to overcome his injury and Rutt is just following suit.

No-he just wasn't very good his first 2 years 34-29-then his Jr. year he went 37-4 .

I get redshirting Howe if he is still recovering from his knee injury, but wrestle the other 2! I want to see some strong lineups. We've already had a year with no Rutt and Howe, we don't need another.

I think OU is seeking a tough line-up; just a year later. If all 3 of them RS, they should be quite strong the next year. They won't be losing anyone significant at the end of this year. Their younger guys get to mature more and all their veterans will be back in 2013-14. If Howe can't really be competitive this year (an assumption) then it makes pretty good sense! Interesting that all of them are in a position to be able to do that!

Ignorant question of the day: doesn't Howe's Olympic redshirt already count as his redshirt year, or is that "an extra one?"
