I have to watch this interview when I get home, but since Jack is the subject of the thread, I have to share this story. During my sophomore year at Mizzou (and Brian Smith's first year) whenever we traveled with him, he seemed to forget the managers. We would be in the designated spot at the designated time, and yet, no team. Smitty is many wonderful things, but he can be a little forgetful. It seemed that every time Smitty forgot us, Jack Spates would rescue us. At Big 12's, at NCAA's, I rode in the van with the Oklahoma wrestling team more than I did Mizzou's. He would make his wrestlers hold their gear on their lap so that they would have room for us. He was the nicest guy in the world to my friends and I, and I will never forget him for that.
Glad to know I am not the only manager who has been left by the team...
Champions are made while no one is watching.
Oh heck no. We had to hitch a ride from Terry Steiner (who I had never met before) from the airport in Harrisburg to State College when NCAA's were at Penn St.
