About a month before Obe wound up making the world team. With the goofy scoring system in place for that match Simmons basically won the dual for the Big 10 by himself.

I don't think I've ever laughed so much watching a match. It looked comical.

Simmons was one of my all time favs to watch in college, will be rooting for him in Iowa City

Was it me or did it always seem like Simmons was the nasty boy at College ? I remeber he use to get a lot of negative press about how agressive he was and his riding skills some people thought he was to rough and his head lock was borderline choking. I always enjoyed watching him and didnt he have one of the greatest High School records ?

Yeah, his HS record (not counting senior nationals where he lost) was something like 210-0 with 180 pins...

Got a lot of flak for the chokes and I think it cost him against the Lehigh kid his freshman year, want to say clendindin or something like that.

I had never heard of the Simmons vs Blanc match until this thread. So I have been searching the net and I have finally found the video. It is absolutely brutal and embarrassing for Blanc. I can't imagine what he could've been thinking when he looked at the scoreboard and saw 29-1. Anyway, couldn't figure out how to only post that one video, so here is where I found it. Then theres the fact he sucker punched a kid because the kid accidently broke Simmons Oakleys in a game of Ultimate Frisbee.

I Could not believe it when Nickerson beat him in the NCAA semis. I guess it wasn't necessarily an upset but it was fairly mind-boggling to me. I think Simmons would have stood a much better chance against DuBuque that year.

Simmons was undefeated (save for a loss in the All Star match against Hazewinkel) and Nickerson was a freshman, I think its safe to say that was a pretty big upset.

I was more surprised though the next year when he lost to Scott after he moved up to 133, rather than winning matches close he KILLED everyone that year up until the semi's.
