Default D1CW Coaches Poll: Jordan Oliver Named Best Pound for Pound

This is posted by Earl who is the founder of the D-1 College Wrestling site. I found it very interesting. Check out the link below..........

don't really like promoting my stuff here but I want to make sure everyone checks this out. For those unfamiliar, I polled a ton of coaches about a bunch of the "Best's" in college wrestling..."Best Pound for Pound", "Best Coach", "Best Scrambler" and so on. A new addition is that I have some feedback from the coaches as to why they voted for a particular wrestler which is called the "Coaches Analysis". Some of them are really good!

They put this out last year, glad to see it again.

JO gets best pound for pound guy. Can't disagree with that.

Very cool list. Not surprising, but lots of Nittany Lions on there.

I would have liked to see a few more Hawkeyes get some love, but that's ok. I think I might have given Dake the best P4P title, just due to the fact that Oliver is just massive for the weight class, and while Dake has been big both years, he's moving up weight, and is primed to do it at least once more, and he might do it for his senior year also.

To me, pound for pound just means best wrestler regardless of weight class. By your standards, a guy like Kerry McCoy wins every year. Oliver didn't have any problems with the weight cut and he's not projected to wrestle 141, so it gets a little away from who is the best wrestler to subjectively evaluate who is big for their weight class (at least IMO).

After last season I can agree that Oliver was the best PFP wrestler. I only see Ramos beating him on a regular basis this year.

    1. Not necessarily. It's just a major factor to me. I would exclude McCoy because I think heavyweights are almost universally the least-skilled wrestlers of the top guys.

    2. Dake is a highly skilled wrestler in his own right, but he's also shown that his skills work at two separate weight classes (and soon to be 3). Oliver has shown it against 133 guys, but up at 141, his strength and length advantage would shrink a bit.
