Post Pat Marsh steps down at Augustana

Pat Marsh, the head wrestling coach at Augustana, has been given a professional opportunity that is too good to pass up and as a result has resigned his position. He will be leaving a Viking program that he has been involved with in some way since 1984. Marsh has been named the city administrator for the City on Monona, Wisconsin.
“This was a very tough decision for me but I have been given a great opportunity in Monona and this is the right move for my family at this time in my life,” said Marsh, who has been the Village Administrator in Coal Valley, Illinois since 2003. “I have been involved with the wrestling program at AugustanaCollege in some way, shape or form since my freshman year in 1984. I have a tremendous amount of great memories here and I cherish the time I have had with the athletes, coaches and others involved at the college.”

Marsh was named the head coach prior to the 2000-01 season, replacing Kevin Puebla. In his seven years as the head coach his teams compiled a dual meet record of 66-45-1 and captured four College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin team titles (2001, 2002, 2003 & 2004). He has coached a total of 19 individual league champions and three NCAA Division III All-Americans. He had a two year time frame in 2002-03 and 2003-04 where he led the Vikings to a combined dual meet record of 30-11-1, grabbed team titles in the CCIW each year, placed second in the NCAA Division III West Regional both seasons and coached a total of 10 individual conference champions.

He is a 1988 graduate of Augustana with degrees in business and political science. He was a four year letterwinner and won the CCIW title at 142 pounds in 1988, his senior season. After graduation he stepped in an began an 11 year tenure as Puebla’s assistant and during that time frame the Vikings went 166-47-7 in dual meets and won 10 CCIW titles. He had a hand in coaching 49 individual CCIW champions, four individual national champs and 22 NCAA Division III All-American selections.

In 2004 Marsh was chosen to coach in the “Marine All-Star Classic”, which pairs the top ranked division one wrestlers in the country. He was the only division III coach selected. He was also picked to coach the NCAA Division III all-stars during the summer of 2004.

A member of the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association, Pat and his wife Gina have two daughters – Ashleigh and Kourtni and a son, Cooper.

Looks like Eric Juergens (2x champ at Iowa) will be the replacement.
There's no such thing as a pretty good aligator wrestler.

I am from the Quad Cities so I can tell you that Augustana has a rich athletic history. Bengals All-Pro quarterback Ken Anderson played there. They have won multiple DIII national championships in football (most recently under Bob Reade) and in basketball (under Jim Borcherding). Wrestling has always been a poor stepchild.

It was an Augustana wrestler that drove me to Ames in 1969 to see Gable wrestle. I am behind Eric 110% in hi seffort to make Augie a contender for national honors.
