Thread: Derek St. John to 165

Default Derek St. John to 165

Per Hawkeye report via Luke Eustice at I-Club.

Essentially means out of: DSJ, Ethen Lofthouse and Mike Evans-1 is sitting.

Also means Mike Kelly and Nick Moore(althlough his efforts will be futile against Kelly) will battle for 157.

I really liked the idea of DSJ at 157 another year as I felt it worked best as far as getting all the talent in the lineup.

I was looking forward to having both Lofthouse and Evans in the lineup this year. However if one of them had to get to 165, they may have been sucking alot of weight and been zapped of energy. I thought St. John looked a little sucked at the beginning of the season last year and maybe 165 is a more natural weight for him. Kudos to St. John for going after Taylor again. I gotta think he'll beat him one of these times.

My excitement level for 157 is now through the roof! Nick Moore was a super recruit and Mike Kelly is an internet super star! Can't wait to see the battle between these two guys for this spot.

    Just a quick rundown

    125 McD/Ramos
    133 Ramos/McD/Clark/Moore
    141 Marion/Dweiza/Ballweg
    149 Carew/Dweiza/Ballweg
    157 Kelly/Moore
    165 St. John
    174 Lofthouse/Evans
    184 Gambrall/Evans
    197 Byers
    285 Rasing/Telford

    Looks pretty good to me!

I remember watching Kelly in high school and thinking that whoever gets him is going to be getting a very outstanding wrestler. I was kinda thinking that St.John would stay at 157# and Kelly wrestling at 149#. Most people have Evans in the lineup at 174# but I still like Lofthouse.

I don't really see how this is surprising, but its cool to get the confirmation none the less.

The fact that I get the opportunity to exclude the God of the Internet (Mr. Kelly) from my AA predictions here in a few weeks delights me to no end.

A number of credible posters said weight wasnt an issue for DSJ. That's why it mildly surprised me as I thought DSJ at 57 made the team better.

About St. John moving up, or the failure of all of us to recognize the greatness that is Michael Kelly?

A very formidable line-up! They'll certainly be in the thick of things this coming year. Iowa, Ok State and PSU should have quite a dog-fight, with others in the mix if they get hot--including Wisconsin, Cornell and Minnesota. With Ohio State's great recruiting class they are maybe a year or two away from being back to form as well.

I see that PSU-Iowa is at PSU again this coming year. I thought they alternated home-away in the Big 10. Does anyone know why it's at PSU again this year? That should be a great dual this coming year. PSU will certainly be looking for revenge for their dual loss last year.
