Re: Southern Scuffle-UTC New Hosts
I would have loved to see it stay in NC. I think it was great for NC and VA wrestling. TN is getting pretty far south for some teams to want to travel. And I would much rather visit Chapel Hill than Chatahoochee

It would have been very cool to see a team like UNC take the reins. I wonder what the closest d1 team to UTC is?

Re: Southern Scuffle-UTC New Hosts
As a North Carolinian, I hate for my state to lose this tournament. I've also helped work the tournament the last several years, and there are a lot of people who have put a LOT of work into it over the years. The wrong people have been "punished" by this.
But anyway.
Speaking for UNC-Chapel Hill, we tried a few things. (I work in the athletic dept). We first offered to serve as the host school, but keep it in Greensboro, but the ridiculous boycott threats ruined that. We can't host it on our campus, the only facility that can possibly hold 10 mats that we have is the Smith Center, and during the winter it's the basketball facility. (for that matter, I think it could only hold 8, that's what it was at 1994 NCAAs and the floor space was pretty tight) The building where we wrestle, Carmichael Arena, could maybe hold 3-4 mats tops.
Everyone seems to think it's "so easy" to find other locations for tournaments, but they just don't realize that it isn't the case when you're trying to host a big tournament like that. The Greensboro Coliseum is the best place, by FAR, in the state (and probably the southeast) to host wrestling. Not only with the size, but the staff at the coliseum is amazing to work with.

Sorry UNC couldn't land it. I didn't mean to imply that it was as simple as you guys just deciding to host it and that would be that. Just thought it'd be nice if UNC could do it since they're an up and coming team in the same state. Didn't mean to imply that you guys dropped the ball by not landing it.

Oh no worries -- I didn't mean you! I was referring to the barrage of threats, bullying, lies, etc, I've been dealing with for the past month. People that don't like to hear logic and truth because it's easier to believe the lies and go with the flow ...
