Default Predict the first #1 seed to fall?

    My choice:

149 Caldwell - I only give him 50/50 chance to make it through the first round.

I think he is the only #1 that will close to knocked off before the quarters.

    In the quarters:

149 Caldwell - If he has survived, he'll go down to Dake here.
Hwt Rey - A fair chance he could be taken out by Clayton Jack, Cameron Wade, or Tony Nelson. Maybe 60% chance he makes it through.
184 Honeycutt - Steinhaus has a good motor and matches up strengthwise with Honeycutt. Again about 60% chance Honeycutt makes it through.

Those are the three I see losing before the semis.

Anybody want to predict a different #1 going down early?

Rey has a much better than 60% chance of making it through the quarters, he has something like a 14-1 record against top 20 opponents, only losing to Flores (once in three matches) who is a level above Wade and Nelson. Honeycutt is a decent pick since he still hasn't proven that he can succeed at NCAAs and that weight class is insanely deep. Anything can happen with Caldwell at this point given his injury, but if the shoulder doesn't take him out of a match then I think you guys are really underrating him. In those ACC matches he didn't even appear to be trying, when he tried to score, he did. A highly skilled wrestler with a gas tank is the only type who I think can upset Caldwell at ~80% because of his conditioning issues, and that's definitely not Grajales. Caldwell will be able to cruise for most of the match and score a few times when he wants to because Grajales has limited conditioning too.

I think that the obvious answer................only because of the nature of the weightclass is Rey. there are about 4 guys that can win this weight.........maybe more. Whoever grunts and pushes and stalls the best will win.

Huneycutt may lose for the opposite reason: a bunch of aggressive guys with big gas tanks.

It would be a shame for DC to lose. I hope that he has his physical problems undercontrol; if so, I don't think anyone touches him.

184 has more potential champs than 285, and Rey has been much more consistent than anyone at 184 despite having faced the top guys so many times. You may consider heavyweight matches to be a contest of who grunts, pushes and stalls the best to win - but Rey has more than proven that he's better than everyone else at doing that with the possible exception of Flores. He will make the quarters without a doubt and should be a heavy favorite to make the finals as well. Whether he wins in the finals is a tough call. Also, how have Rey's wins been any different than Kellen Russell's?

Caldwell will beat Grajales, and will go on to win his second NCAA Title.

I really have a hard time finding that one seed that really poops(max askren, mack lewnes style) his pants early.

I have a hard time choosing one. If i had to it's caldwell just because of the shoulder risk.
