    Default Best 2011 RS Freshmen

From the somewhat cramped confines of the Big Ten Channel and Flow Wrestling, I've been attempting to keep up with college wrestling this year. I've been excited watching Andrew Alton, David Taylor and Ed Ruth do as well as they have, and been somewhat stunned by the recuperative powers of the Brands' brothers and their style of coaching.

But, amid all the matches, there are a few guys who've stood out in my mind as potential future NCAA champions and I wanted to throw their names out there into the ether - and see what other people think:

Jackson Morse: Illinois freshman who took-down David Taylor three times and has basically acquitted himself very well in a very tough weight-class. If Taylor moves up a weight in the years to come, Morse could very well rise to the top.

Tony Ramos: maybe you guys saw this coming. I certainly did not. Ramos has a chance at an NCAA this year, but I think in years to come he will be a major factor at 133. He really impresses me with his drive and determination.

Dylan Ness: remember way back in November (or was it October?) when he just took off at the Cliff Keen? I guess he's red-shirting this year. But next year - will he be the next Andrew Alton?

And, finally, what about Logan Stieber?

So, what do you guys think? Am I talking crazy here?

If I remember correctly Stieber was on a tear before getting injured. Also whenever he gets enrolled into a school keep an eye out for Derek Garcia.

Ryan Loder of Northern Iowa will be on everyones radar after this season if it is not already. Also Joe Colon will be very tough for them in the coming years. He was a champ at Iowa Central and is reshirting this year.

Ness didn't wrestle at the Cliff Keen.

As far as the best RS Freshmen next year sticking to guys you didn't mention...

    - Ryak Finch
    - Levi Wolfensperger
    - Nick Dardanes
    - Robert Kokesh
    - Derek Garcia
    - Lee Munster
    - Mike McMullan
    - Dirk Cowburn (If he can find a spot in the line up)
    - Marshall Peppelman
    - Bobby Telford
    - Mike Evans (If he can beat Lofthouse or Gambrall)
    - Nick Moore/Michael "God of the Internet" Kelly (Which ever one makes the line up)
    RIP Jacob Schlottke - 1984-2011

Not sure if Garcia will be on that list. As I understand it this year he is at the OTC and not Ohio State.

I also want to throw Taylor Meeks' name into the conversation. He in all likelihood won't be in the same class as some of those guys next year but I think that he makes some noise at 184 next year.

My assumption was that he'd head to Ohio State in 2011/2012 after spending this past season at the OTC

How good is David Taylor when people are praising a guy who took him down three times, yet still got teched?

And I agree with the Mike Evans call. I can't see anything but a bright future for him.

Ramos will be at 125# next year. Ramos 125#, McDonough 133#, Marion 141#.
    Ryak Finch for I.S.U.
    Colon and Wolfensberger for U.N.I.
I've watched Kelly wrestle. He will be the starter for Iowa at 157# if StJohn moves up. He has beaten Nick Moore and he has also lost to Moore wrestling at 165# with a broken hand.
