Only match between ranked wrestlers (Clark, not Ramos, is ranked for Iowa), and they're fighting hard in ties. Sponsellor tries a shrug, but Janssen defends well. No shots from Janssen yet. Janssen hit from stalling, and it's semi-deserved. Janssen in on a nice high crotch, but Sponsellor is defending, and now he's looking to cut the corner, but the period ends.

Sponsellor chooses down, and he's out quickly. Half shot from Sponsellor, and Janssen counters and he's in deep! Sponsellor powers out of it. Janssen counters another Sponsellor shot AGAIN he's in deep, he cuts off to the double and there's the TD! 2-1 Janssen! Janssen rides the last 20 seconds out, and it's 2-1 Janssen hitting the third period!

Janssen chooses down, and Colt has an optional start, and he cuts him. Janssen is in again! SPonsellor counters, and now he's behind Janssen ,but they're on their feet! Janssen squares up and no TD for anyone. Impressive wrestling from both! Sponsellor is in deep, and they're scrambling! Sponsellor finishes, and it's 3-3! Janssen is up and nearly out, but SPonsellor dragsh im out. Restart with 12 seconds, and SPonsellor has a leg in. Sponsellor exposes Janssen's back! But the period ends, no 2 count! WOW!

Sponsellor in almost immediately in OT, and they're scrambling agin. Sponsellor is deep though, and it looks inevitable...and there's the TD.

    Sponsellor DEC Janssen 5-3
Much better showing from when they wrestled each other three years ago when Sponseller nearly beat Jannsen to death.

Regarding Jannsen v. Spons: Do we believe that this is Aaron Jannsen coming out and being a legitimate AA contender against a proven Spons, or is it Spons still not being back to the guy he had been the last two years?

What did it look like to those who were privy to viewing the match?

I felt like Sponseller was clearly a better wrestle, though Janssen wrestled admirably.

Both. I don't really see Janssen as much of an AA candidate, but he's definitely improved a lot. His best trait was scrambling well off Colt's offense. Pretty decent fighting off deep leg attacks. Sponseller also isn't back to his old self yet. Hopefully he gets there.

    General thoughts:
-Buckeyes look absolutely terrible on bottom up and down the lineup. No explosions off the whistle. This is a huge concern.
-Generally no aggression today (except Sponseller). My guess is that the legitimate shot count for the whole Buckeye squad was under 10. That is pathetic.
-Early on I was taking little positives from each match. After the first five matches, that became pretty hard to do. There wasn't necessarily a lack of effort; I felt like most of them weren't conceding positions, but they went 1/4 in close matches and generally lacked a sense of urgency.
-Heflin looks very good when he shoots. Unfortunately, it's tough for the world to see this because he shoots like once a match. Picking your shots is one thing, but you can't just expect opportunities to present themselves very often. He's clearly got to focus on getting more attempts.
-Nice job by Iowa showing up to wrestle and doing the things the needed to do to win nearly every match.
