2008-09 Wrestling Season Outlook: 157, 165 Pounds

Corvallis, Ore. ? Sophomore Tim Patrick (Milwaukie, Ore.) and junior Keegan Davis (Salem, Ore.) lead the way for the 2008-09 Oregon State wrestling team at 157 and 165 pounds.

?At 157 pounds it?s kind of up in the air. We feel good about Tim Patrick being back with some experience at the Pac-10 Tournament, and Jon Brascetta, who started at 165 pounds, will be dropping down to 157,? head coach Jim Zalesky said. ?Keegan Davis is back for another year at 165 pounds, and I think he?s really prepared better this year than he has in the past.?

Competing in his first varsity matches at the Pac-10 Tournament at 157 pounds, Patrick finished fourth with back-to-back pins last season after being cleared to compete after breaking his neck during his true freshman season. He also earned the team?s Dale Thomas Hustle Award last season.

Also competing for time at 157 pounds is Brascetta, who posted a 7-6 record with one pin at 165 pounds last season. He was sidelined on the last day of November due to an injury after winning his first match of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

Also wrestling at 157 pounds is redshirt freshman Anthony Peressini (Henderson, Nev.).

At 165 pounds, Davis looks to continue to improve on 25-24 overall record, 11-10 last season. He had one pin and four major decisions in 2007-08 after taking over the weight class when Brascetta was injured. He finished fifth at the Pac-10 Tournament.

Also looking for time at 165 pounds are Peressini and redshirt freshman Josh Stalcup (Estacada, Ore.).

The wrestling team begins its 2008-09 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 15, against Simon Fraser in Lake Stevens, Wash., at Lake Stevens High School. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
