Thread: January 31st Dual Impact Index

  1. #1

Default January 31st Dual Impact Index

The basic idea is an iterative one. Begin with all wrestlers set to an even rating -- 100 in this case. Then, for each match wrestled, give each wrestler the value of their opponent's rating plus or minus a factor for winning or losing the match -- 30 by decision, 40 by major/tech-four, 50 by tech-five, 60 by fall.
Total all of a wrestler's results, divide by the number of matches wrestled, and that's the end of a cycle. Then use those numbers as the start of the next cycle until you get the same results for each wrestler for two consecutive cycles.

    Comments: setonhallpirate1@aol.com

NOTE: These numbers are in no way related to the NCAA Division I qualifier allocation process, rather a computer ranking based on head-to-head wins based on quality of competition. Teams not listed at a weight have not had anybody meet minimum participation requirements at that weight to be considered for the ranking (30% of a team's entire schedule).

    Dual-Component
Based on the Individual Ranking numbers, each team is compared side-by-side with each other team. Teams are given three points for their wrestler being ahead of another team's wrestler, plus one additional point for being 40, 50, and 60 points ahead, to signify major decisions, technical falls, and falls. Teams are scored based on the numbers of such comparisons won, with ties broken by head-to-head comparisons, and then by, if the teams are tied, dual-advancement tiebreak criteria.

Note that I have renamed the "dual" rankings "dual component" so as to make it clear it is not based on dual results, but the component parts of it.

Hey SHP could you write out your formula please, (mathematically not alphabetically) just so I make sure I got it right? Thanks.

    If I read it correctly, it's 100 +/- x= y/z

x = Value of match result, y = Raw score, z = Total number of matches. Yeah, it's not much easier to read in that format. That's "plus or minus" after 100, and that's "y divided by z".

Cody Cleveland has been out longer than both of them.

SHP said after the first installment that Cleveland was still in there because nobody else at that weight has qualified for the Mocs to be in his rankings. I don't know why he doesnt just not rank anyone from UTC. Having Cody in there has to throw his team rankings off a very small percentage because he is using information from a wrestler that absolutely will not see the mat again this season for that team.
