I know like 5 people have said this so far, but I can't imagine why Gelogaev would take bottom against Varner. In all likelihood that cost OSU the dual...

I don't mean to disparage Smith. He's one of the very best college coaches and a living wrestling encyclopedia. Maybe he had another reason: teach Gelogaev a lesson, or toughen him up? Some lessons are tough to learn.

OK since I have OCD and have to tie everything up in a nice little bow, in case there's anyone else like me who just wants to see all the results together at the end

Thanks Dusty.
I think Oklahoma State did much better than i thought they would. They could have won this meet.

Andrew Long spanked Notte and Notte needs to do a better job of keeping that match close. All credit though to Long as he in essence tech falled a Top 10 wrestler. The mentality I felt was that Long wrestled like he needed to put up bonus from the get go and not just get a dec. This and Varner's pin are the story here I think.

I just want it noted that I was right at least ONCE this year.

I'll stand by my statement that he won't bonus but I'll recant that he doesn't score big points for his team.
Now what do you say? You can't say it was lucky either because he almost had that cradle locked up three times and had he not gotten it in the second he was going to pick top in the third and lock it up then anyway or stall the U.S.S.R.'ian out.

Amybe Smith realizes that the Russian is going to have to learn to mat wrestle and why not do it now... Maybe he is willing to lose a dual to force his wrestler to improve.
This also reminded me of the last Hendricks-Perry NCAA finals match. Hendricks was dominating on the feet (albiet without scoring a takedown) and had just ridden Perry for the entire 2nd period. In the third period he chose to go underneath Perry, the only position where Perry possibly had an advantage over Hendricks. If Hendricks decided to go nuetral, IMO, he gets another title.
I don't know if John Smith told his wrestler what to chose in either of these situations, but both turned out bad for the OSU wrestler who chose down.
