Varner is good. Do you think Gelagaev would beat him in a freestyle match?

He's got the well known win over Hrovat (Varner to his credit does as well) so he'd certainly have a better shot in free than folk.

If Lapotsky took him down and rode him for almost 5 minutes, Varner would beat him half to death.

Just based on the Hrovat video (which is on the good matches thread sommewhere): Hrovat lives and dies by the upper body clinch, Gelagelov was petter from that position and so he beat him. I don't see Varner getting into a throw-off, he'd probably wrestle a much more controlled FS match.
