Not quite following the reasoning here Flop.
PA has not only tons of fans but TONS of D1 schools (& D-IA & DII schools wrestling D1) wrestling; PSU, Pitt, Pitt-Johnston, Lehigh, Edinboro, Clarion, Millersville, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Slippery Rock, Bucknell, Wilkes, Drexel, Mercyhurst, Gannon, Waynesburg, Lock Haven, Kutztown, Shippensburg, Delaware Valley & probably more then I can think of.
PSU I believe is the ONLY school east of the Mississsippi to win the NCAA team wrestling crown & has been a top 10 school for 50 years in the sport.
Given the talent in close proximity to PSU, they should compete for the national title every year. PSU (and Lehigh to a lesser extent) should both be much better than they have been. None of the other schools you've named are going to compete for a national title any time soon.
Ok.
Actually PSU finished 3rd @ NCAAs in 2008. And they have had a few years in the top 5 the past 25 years. You are right about currently that those schools won't compete but if you check NCAA placings you will see that there have been years where 5, 6, 7 PA colleges were in the top 25 or 30.
The PSAC schools seem to rotate out every 10 years or so. Now it's Edinboro but a few years back it was Lock Haven always in the top 15-25, before that Bloomsburg & before that the great Clarion & Slippery Rock teams of the 70s.

Former WEC light-heavyweight champion Brian Stann (8-3) was no match for gifted wrestler Phil Davis (5-0) of San Diego. Davis, a four-time All-American and NCAA national wrestling champion at Penn State, certainly made an impression in his UFC debut with a 3-round unanimous decision over Stann.
Davis used his striking to set up his takedowns. Once on the ground, Davis manhandled Stann, passing guard and mounting him with ease. He even used a cradle to set up some knees to the body. Davis almost tapped Stann with an armbar in the closing seconds of the fight. It was an awesome display of world-class wrestling.

PHIL DAVIS
The Aftermath: UFC 109
http://fiveouncesofpain.com/2010/02/...rmath-ufc-109/
Raw Talent. “Mr. Wonderful” making it look easy. Finally, Phil Davis has arrived. I’ve been telling anyone that would listen for the last year about this ridiculously talented former NCAA Champion wrestler out of Penn State that was poised to have a tremendous impact on the future of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, and Davis’ performance at UFC 109 solidified my belief that the undefeated twenty-five year old has all of the tools necessary to go as far as he chooses to in the sport in due time. Davis is one of the few wrestlers with the unique ability to convert a series of takedowns combined with technical top control throughout the course of a bout into of the most fascinating aspects of the game to watch. Top notch wrestling at it’s finest combined with what appears to be an unlimited level of raw fighting talent for the still developing Davis have officially merged to put the ENTIRE light heavyweight division on notice.
Danzig’s Back with A Win; Davis Impressive in Debut
http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=63309
Former NCAA Division I National champion wrestler Phil Davis didn’t look like a UFC debutant with only four previous fights to his name as he made quite an impression with a dominant three round unanimous decision win over Brian Stann. Scores were 30-26 twice, and 30-27 for Davis, who improves to 5-0; Stann falls to 8-3.
There was little significant scoring in the first three minutes of the bout, and it was Davis who drew first blood with a quick takedown. With Stann unable to get back to his feet, Davis sunk his hooks in and fired off strikes, capping off a big final minute for the former Penn State wrestling standout.
Buoyed by his strong first round finish, Davis kept the heat on in round two, using his strikes to set up another lightning-fast takedown. This time, Davis worked for a kimura on Stann before getting back into the mount position for a ground assault that included punches to the head and knees to the body.
Down in a 2-0 hole, Stann tried to be more aggressive to start the third, but by doing so, he walked right into a Davis takedown. Davis’ positioning again proved to be the key factor, as he kept Stann pinned and unable to escape while he put in enough offensive work – including a last second arm bar attempt - to pile the points up and secure his first Octagon win.

You may as well add WVU to the list. They are usually loaded with PA wrestlers.
PSU's best shot at drawing big crowds is to wrestle on Sundays. Most people interested in wrestling are usually in a gym of their own most nights and certainly on Saturdays.
Oh yeah, then there is hunting season. NOTHING interferes with a weekend at hunt'n camp during buck season, doe season, turkey season or bear season.
