Ayres Announces Class Of 2017, Including Top-50 Duo, And Talks 13-14 Season
Head coach Chris Ayres believes his program continues to get closer to breaking into the elite of the EIWA, and he thinks that the seven-member Class of 2017 could play a huge role in that journey over the next four years. Each of the seven wrestlers has either won a state championship or reached their respective state or prep final. Two wrestlers — Brett Harner and Ray O'Donnell — have been ranked among the Top 50 overall recruits this year, while the whole class could ultimately earn a national recruiting ranking when they are announced later in the spring.
"I am really excited about these seven newcomers to the Princeton Wrestling tradition," Ayres said. "This is a group that has a chance to have a tremendous impact over the next four years. Their accomplishments speak for themselves, but they are also terrific young men who our alumni will enjoy rooting for during their careers."
Of course, these seven will not be the only new faces in the wrestling room this season. Ayres will also be thrilled to see the return of three of his most decorated wrestlers, each of whom missed all of last season with an injury: three-time NCAA qualifier and two-time EIWA finalist Garrett Frey, 2012 EIWA placewinner Chris Perez, and 2011 Midlands third-place finisher and 2012 Top-15 standout Adam Krop.
Ayres talks about how all of these wrestlers could impact the 2013-14 lineup in the video above. You can read the high school achievements of the Class of 2017 below.
