Six Cyclones Heading To National Collegiate Open
AMES, Iowa - Six wrestlers from the No. 20 Iowa State
wrestling team (9-4 overall, 1-2 Big 12) will be heading to Richmond, Va. this
weekend for the National Collegiate Open.
Ryak Finch (125), John Meeks (133), Luke Goettl (141), Max
Mayfield (149), No. 15 Boaz Beard (184) and Matt Gibson (285) will be wrestling
for the Cyclones. They will be competing in the University Division, which is open
to only Division 1 student-athletes. *The
six Cyclones will be wrestling to hit 17 matches against Division 1 competition
on the season, the mark set by the NCAA to be eligible for the RPI rankings. *
In order to be eligible to receive an at-large bid to the
2013 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Division 1 wrestlers must meet two of
the three selection criteria set forth by the NCAA. The criterion includes:
-Top 33 Rating Percentage Index ranking (NOTE: to be
considered for the RPI rankings, a wrestler must have a minimum of 17 Division
1 matches at a given weight class)
-Top 33 Coaches' Panel ranking
-.700 win percentage against all competition
The tournament will take place on Sunday at the Arthur Ashe
Center in Richmond. Weigh-ins are at 8 a.m. with wrestling beginning shortly
after.*
