• The No. 25 Rutgers wrestling team (16-3, 6-1 EIWA) concludes the regular season at home, taking on No. 3 Penn State inside the RAC at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.
• Rutgers will honor seven seniors in their final home match of their careers.
• Current RU assistant coach Frank Molinaro was the 2012 149-pound national champion while wrestling for the Nittany Lions.
• Against Drexel, head coach Scott Goodale notched his 100th career win. He holds a 100-32-1 dual record as Rutgers’ mat leader.
• Rutgers jumped into the rankings this week at No. 25 in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll.
• The Scarlet Knights currently feature four individuals in the national rankings: 133-pounder Vincent Dellefave (Toms River, N.J.), 174-pounder Greg Zannetti (Edison, N.J.) 184-pounder Dan Rinaldi (Lodi, N.J.), and HWT Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.). RU has eight wrestlers ranked in both the NCAA RPI and Coaches’ Rankings from Feb. 14.
• Rinaldi has 104 career wins, good for a tie for seventh on the program’s all-time list.
• Smith leads RU with 17 dual wins. Dellefave and Rinaldi follow with 16 each.
• Dellefave and Smith earned EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors on Feb. 11 after each notching a victory over a ranked Bloomsburg opponent on Friday, Feb. 8.
• Dellefave has won 10-consecutive bouts, dating back to a win on Jan. 6 against ASU.
• Rutgers’ lineup features three seniors, Mason Winston and Rinaldi, who have earned qualification for the NCAA Championships in all three seasons of their career.
Rutgers and the Penn State Nittany Lions
• The Rutgers wrestling team holds a 0-16 all-time record against the Nittany Lions, including a 0-1 mark under Goodale.
• The Scarlet Knights last faced the Nittany Lions on Nov. 21, 2010, when Rutgers fell 22-10. Penn State was No. 6 at the time. The last time the Nittany Lions traveled to Rutgers was on Dec. 16, 1972, when the Scarlet Knights fell 29-9.
Scouting Penn State
• The Nittany Lions are 12-1 overall, including a 7-1 record in the Big Ten. The only loss the squad has suffered was a 22-16 setback to then-No. 3 Iowa Feb. 1. The squad is Ranked No. 3 in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Coaches Poll, but is No. 1 in the country in InterMat’s rankings.
• Penn State is coached by wrestling icon Cael Sanderson, who is in his fourth season. He has led PSU to the past two national championships.
• Nine Nittany Lions are nationally ranked, including five grapplers ranked in the top five and six wrestlers ranked in the top 10. The defending national champions feature three wrestlers who have won an individual national championship (David Taylor, Ed Ruth and Quentin Wright), as well as five All-Americans and seven former NCAA qualifiers. Ruth holds the No. 1 ranking at 184 pounds.
Goodale Gets 100th Win as Rutgers Downs Drexel, 26-10
• The Rutgers wrestling team earned a 26-10 win over Drexel in Philadelphia, Feb. 15, as sixth-year head coach Scott Goodale picked up his 100th career victory at the helm. The Scarlet Knights won seven of the 10 contested bouts. RU notched three bonus point wins, including a pin by No. 16 freshman HWT Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) and major decisions by 20th-ranked redshirt junior 133-pounder Vinnie Dellefave (Toms River, N.J.) and No. 13 senior 174-pounder Greg Zannetti (Edison, N.J.).
• With the win, Goodale became the fourth Rutgers head coach to record 100 wins. John Sacchi (166, 17 seasons), Deane Oliver (158, 21 seasons) and Dick Voliva (142, 23 seasons) are the other three. The Scarlet Knights improved to 16-3 overall, while Drexel fell to 8-11. RU is now 13-11 all-time against the Dragons.
