AMES, Iowa - No. 7 197-pounder Kyven Gadson has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for the fourth time this season league officials announced Tuesday.
The redshirt sophomore is fresh off a weekend road trip where he picked up two wins by fall. On Friday in East Lansing, Mich., Gadson pinned Michigan State's Luke Jones 4:09 into the match. On Sunday in Ypsilanti, Mich., Gadson was able to lock up a cradle on the edge of the mat to get a first period pin over Eastern Michigan's Nick Whitenburg in 1:37.
Gadson has posted three-straight wins by fall dating back to a pin in the second period over UNI's Blaize Cabell on Feb. 8, a dual which was won by the Cyclones 23-12 in Ames.
The Waterloo, Iowa native is currently riding a nine-match winning streak that dates back to the Midlands Championships on Dec. 30 in Evanston, Ill. During the streak, Gadson has posted six bonus point wins, including wins over three top-10 opponents.
With the two wins this weekend, Gadson moved to 20-2 overall on the year and a perfect 12-0 in dual competition. He ranks second in the team in wins, trailing only No. 19 165-pounder Michael Moreno, who is 22-6 on the season.
