RALEIGH, N.C. -- Darrion Caldwell, arguably the greatest wrestler in NC State history, wrestled the last* home match of his career Saturday, and went out a winner in a dual match against Maryland.

Maryland won nine of 10 matches to take the dual 35-5. The Terps improved to 14-4 overall, 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. NC State dropped to 9-10 overall and 1-4 in the conference with the loss.

Caldwell won an easy technical fall over Maryland freshman Dex Lederer, wrapping up the 15-0 rout just 30 seconds into the second period. Caldwell took Lederer down 26 seconds into the match and rode Lederer the remainder of the period. Caldwell got a quick three-point near fall, then added three more near falls to lead 12-0 after the first period. Lederer chose to be on top to start the second period, but Caldwell escaped after just six seconds, and got the match-winning takedown 27 seconds later.

With the victory, Caldwell improved to 12-0 this season and is now 106-12 for his career. His .898 career winning percentage is the best in the history of the Wolfpack program. He ranks second in career wins at NC State, trailing only Sylvester Terkay, who won 122 matches from 1990-93. Caldwell is a perfect 31-0 in matches against ACC opponents. He now has wrestled 52 matches since his last on-the-mat defeat. He lost a medical default in 2009. His last actual defeat by an opponent came at the 2008 NCAA Championships.

The dual featured five technical falls, but unfortunately for NC State, four of them were administered by Maryland. Darrius Little lost a 3-2 decision at 141 pounds to 16th-ranked Jon Kohler, and 157-pounder Colton Palmer dropped an 8-4 decision to 14th-ranked Kyle John.

The Wolfpack's Quinton Godley weighed in at 174, but wrestled the 184-pound match and lost 11-4 to Maryland's Corey Peltier. At heavyweight, Eloheim Palma fell 5-2 to Spencer Myers. The match was the dual of the season and the end of the regular season. NC State will take two weeks off to prepare for the ACC Championships, which will be held in Charlottesville, Va., on March 5.
