? Trevor Brandvold remains undefeated at 8-0
? NU notched two pins in the dual
Redshirt senior Trevor Brandvold remains undefeated and redshirt sophomore Tyler Graff has still not lost since the finals of the Cliff Keen Invitational on Dec. 4.

It was Northwestern's ability to capture four-straight victories from 141-165 lbs. that made the difference in the dual. Also lifting NU above the Badgers was its three wins by bonus points, including two pins.

The dual began at 197 lbs. where No. 2 Brandvold defeated John Schoen by a 14-5 major decision. Brandvold jumped out early with a takedown with 2:25 remaining in the first period. He then added five additional takedowns, an escape and riding time to put the Badgers on top, 4-0.

No. 11 redshirt senior Eric Bugenhagen gave Wisconsin a 7-0 lead by defeating Ben Kuhar at heavyweight, 9-3. Bugenhagen scored two takedowns, three nearfall points, an escape and riding time in his 21st win of the season. Northwestern grabbed its first win of the day with a pin at 125 lbs.

Redshirt sophomore Tom Kelliher trailed No. 3 Brandon Precin 4-1 prior to the fall (1:20) that brought the Wildcats within one point of the Badgers.

No. 3 Graff extended UW's lead to 10-6 with a 10-5 decision over Levi Mele. Graff registered four takedowns, an escape and 1:06 of riding time in his 23rd victory of the year at 133 lbs. *

The Wildcats then tied the score, 10-10, with a 11-3 major decision by Kaleb Friedley over redshirt freshman Danny Arnel at 141 lbs. All of Arnel's points came from escapes.

At 149 lbs., No. 8 redshirt sophomore Cole Schmitt fell to No. 13 Andrew Nadhir. Schmitt earned a takedown and two escapes in the 8-4 decision. The win gave Northwestern a 13-10 lead.

Northwestern grabbed its third-straight victory and second pin of the night when No. 10 Jason Welch recorded a fall on redshirt freshman Kalvin York at 157 lbs. Welch led the bout 7-0 prior to the fall at 5:49, extending the Wildcat's lead to 19-10.

Pushing its lead to 22-10, Northwestern's Kevin Bialka defeated redshirt freshman Shawn Perry by an 8-3 decision at 165 lbs. Perry earned three escapes in the match.

No. 17 redshirt sophomore Ben Jordan then faced Brian Roddy at 174 lbs. Despite starting down 2-0 entering the second period, Jordan grabbed three takedows, an escape and riding time to narrow the Wildcat's lead to 22-13.

In his first bout at 184 lbs., freshman Ben Cox fell to Aaron Jones by a 6-0 decision. The win gave Northwestern a 25-13 dual victory and handed Wisconsin its fourth-straight dual loss.

Junior Travis Rutt (184 lbs.) did not compete in tonight's dual due to a death in the family.

Wisconsin hosts Ohio State in its final home dual of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the UW Field House. Prior to the dual, Wisconsin will honor seniors Bugenhagen and Brandvold in their last dual at the UW Field House.
