STATSAMES, Iowa ? The No. 16 Iowa State wrestling team fell by a score of 33-7 to No. 7 Oklahoma on Friday night in Hilton Coliseum. Cyclones Jon Reader and Jerome Ward earned victories against the seventh-rated Sooners. Iowa State is 6-6 in dual competition. Oklahoma is 9-3.
?We are disappointed about where we are at in some weight classes,? Iowa State head coach Kevin Jackson said. ?We are hoping that (ISU 141-pounder) Chris Drouin will be back with us next week. Jerome will have a tough match Sunday so we will see where we are at there.?
Reader ran his record to 25-0 on the season with a 13-4 major decision over Jeff James at 174 pounds. The top-ranked senior secured five takedowns and over three minutes of riding time in a dominant performance.
Hindered by a large knee brace, Ward needed a double-leg takedown with only three seconds left in the first overtime period to earn a 3-1 victory over Keldrick Hall.
?I?m at about 75 percent right now,? Ward said. ?The knee is getting better, it just takes time.?
The Cyclones will be back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Hilton Coliseum.
