NC State and VMI each won five matches, but NC State got pins from 149-pounder Matt Nereim and 157-pounder Colton Palmer plus major decisions from 141-pounder Darrius Little and 165-pounder Colin Genthert and rode those four wins to a 23-15 victory in a dual match at Lexington, Va.

NC State won for the fifth time in its last six matches to improve to 6-3 in dual competition. VMI fell to 2-3 with the defeat.

The Keydets jumped to a 6-0 lead on the strength of an 8-6 decision by Jonathan Pope over Pedram Rahmatabadi at 125 pounds and an 8-3 win by Luke Todd over Conor Hovis at 133. The Wolfpack won the next five matches, beginning with the foursome of Little (18-6), Nereim (7-2), Palmer (21-8) and Genthert (5-10), to take a 20-6 lead. Quinton Godley (16-9) concluded the scoring for NC State with a 5-1 decision over Matthew Brock at 174, all but cinching the team victory for the Pack.

Trailing 23-6 with three matches to go, VMI needed three pins but got three decisions in the final three matches, which only trimmed NC State?s final margin of victory to eight points.



The Wolfpack will return to action vs. Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 15, at Charlottesville. The match will be the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for the Wolfpack.NC State 23 , VMI 15
