When:*Saturday. February 9th, 2013
Where: *Columbus, OH
St. John Arena, Ohio State University
What:*The First Ohio High School Athletic Association Team Wrestling State Finals.
Tickets:*$10.
The format is*eight-team brackets in Division I, II and III*wrestling a single-elimination, dual-meet tournament. Area qualifiers are St. Edward and Brecksville in Division I, Perry and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Division II, and Keystone in Division III. A tournament committee re-seeded teams after Wednesday’s regional finals.
What to watch:*Ohio’s excellence in wrestling has 75 years of history to support its claim as one of the nation’s most fertile lands for individual talent. That hasn’t changed in recent decades, but what has changed has been the decline of dual meets as individual tournaments are increasingly emphasized. This year, the*OHSAA*took over what had been a small team tournament with a limited field run by coaches. The tournament was expanded to include every school that could field a dual meet team. The hope is to re-invigorate the dual meet format and create excitement in schools with three earlier rounds held at schools that earned high seeds.
