The era of Apple Valley as the #1 ranked high school wrestling team in the nation has ended.* For the first time in 3 years, 2012 will have a new high school wrestling team crowned National Champions.* The remaining field of contenders will now battle it out for a chance at a national team title.* In the running for the #1 spot… is Blair Academy, St. Edward and St. Johns.* Good luck and lets find out who’s #1.

(1-14) Saturday’s Matchup -* NHSCA Wrestling Festival

#1 Blair Academy vs.* #2 St. Edward


1.* Blair Academy, NJ* -* Walsh Ironman & Powerade Champs.* Solid across the board.* They’re matched up against #2 St. Edward for a dual on Saturday.

2.* St. Edward, OH** -** Looking very impressive, taking out nationally-ranked teams left and right.* St. Ed’s won this year’s Clash by defeating Christiansburg, Clovis, Brandon & Apple Valley.** While losing a close Individual Tournament to Blair Academy at the Walsh Ironman, they still make a strong case for the #1 team right now.

3.* Apple Valley, MN* -* Came up just short against #2 St. Edward at the Clash.* Valley lost 2 of the 3 overtime matches, which would cost them the match and a shot at the national championship.* Look for them to bounce right back as contenders next season.

4.* St. Johns, MI* -* They enter the spotlight these next couple weeks as they face nationally-ranked teams which gives them a shot to prove they belong at or near the top.** St. Johns has the talent to make some noise.

5.* Clovis, CA* -* Took down the west coast at the Doc Buchanan in dominating fashion.* 3rd place at the Clash proved that they can compete with the nation.
