For Kyle Casaletto (H.M. @ 125) Selects The Citadel and many other topics visit

After visiting Newberry College in South Carolina on April 21, Southern Regional High School senior Kyle Casaletto (H.M. @ 125) thought he had his mind set.

And as he and his father, Ron, headed southeast on Interstate-26 toward Charleston, S.C. the next day, Kyle questioned whether visiting The Citadel would even be worth it.

It turned out to be the visit that sealed the deal.

?As soon as I got to The Citadel, I knew it was the right place for me,? said the Southern wrestler. ?It?s an awesome school. The campus is incredible. And I love the military aspect of it. I?m totally down with the discipline thing. I want that.?

Casaletto this past winter finished his career with a 123-17 record, registering a pair of state runner-up spots at 112 and 125 pounds during his last two seasons with the Rams after placing eighth in the state at 103 his sophomore year.

Now Casaletto is ready to take his wrestling abilities to the Division I level. He gave a verbal commitment to Citadel head coach Rob Hjerling on April 24 and will sign his National Letter of Intent on Friday.

The Bulldogs went 8-12 overall and qualified one wrestler for the NCAA National Championships in Philadelphia this past season. During the past few seasons, Hjerling has steadily built The Citdel wrestling program into one of the Southern Conference?s better teams.

?It?s a real solid program,? Casaletto said of The Citadel. ?They?ve turned things around the past few years and I?m really excited about the challenges ahead.?
