For Quinton Murphy (No. 15 @ 135) and Chris Nevinger (H.M. @ 152) Named AGR?s Co-Wrestlers of the Year and many other topics visit

The way Quinton Murphy (No. 15 @ 135) moves on the mat and makes unthinkable escapes, it?s as if the Holley junior is the wrestling equivalent of Spider-Man.

?He feels things most people don?t,? his coach, John Grillo, says of Murphy?s sixth sense, ?He?s able to maneuver his body to get out of (holds). It?s totally amazing the situations he can come up with. You can?t coach a guy to do the things he does. It?s instinctual.?

Letchworth?s Chris Nevinger (H.M. @ 152) is more like Superman, relying more on brute strength, a straightforward and cautious approach and technique.

The 17-year-old juniors have different styles, but they executed almost flawlessly on their way to winning state championships this winter to earn All-Greater Rochester Wrestlers of the Year honors for small schools. Murphy (135 pounds) and Nevinger (152) each repeated as state winners after going up in weight.

Murphy won the same AGR honor last year.

They?re each on an astounding two-year rip: Nevinger has gone 92-0 to run his career mark to 209-24 and Murphy went 105-2 to push his career record to 244-12. Each has wrestled five seasons.
