For Nick Francavilla (No. 12 @ 125) Named West Jersey Wrestler of the Year and many other topics visit

Nick Francavilla (No. 12 @ 125) came into (No. 19) High Point with a reputation as a freshman phenom who had pummeled the competition on the junior level.

?I had high expectations coming in,? said Francavilla. ?I won more titles in middle school than high school.?

Francavilla would soon find out he was equally capable of achieving big things at the high school level.

The precocious freshman placed seventh in the NJSIAA tournament at 103 pounds, gaining a taste of the big time at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. That would, essentially, be Francavilla?s jumping off point toward a run at three straight state championships.

?Nick is a very aggressive, very skilled wrestler,? said High Point coach John Gardner. ?Placing as a freshman was great but to come back and win three straight state championships, that?s kind of mind-blowing.?

Francavilla remained at 103 pounds his sophomore season and won his first state title. He bumped up to 112 as a junior and won again, a 3-2 nail-biter over Kyle Casaletto (H.M. @ 125) of Southern Regional. He met Casaletto in the state final again at 125 pounds and won, 3-0, to become just the 25th wrestler in state history to win three state championships.
