Easton Area High School state wrestling champion Mitchell Minotti (H.M. @ 145) is now a national champion.

Minotti won the 140-pound title in the NHSCA National High School Juniors Wrestling Championships on Friday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Ten wrestlers from The Express-Times region ? nine from Pennsylvania and one from New Jersey ? earned All-America honors in the event.

Minotti posted a 6-0 record that included a technical fall, two major decisions, 7-2 and 7-4 decisions and a 10-4 victory in the finals over North Carolina state champion Tony DeAngelo of Graham Southern Alamance High.

Northampton and Bethlehem Catholic also had strong showings with Becahi claiming four All-Americans and the Konkrete Kids three.

Becahi?s Darian Cruz (No. 3 @ 103) led the way in the Sophomore Nationals, winning the 103-pound title. Cruz allowed just six points in building a 5-0 record that included a pin, a technical fall, an 8-1 decision and two major decisions.

He shut out two-time Kansas champion Zac Gentzler (No. 5 @ 103) of Andover Central High, 8-0, in a match featuring two wrestlers ranked in the top 10 nationally at the weight.
Cruz?s brother, Randy(H.M. @ 119), finished fourth in the Junior Nationals at 125. Josh Alpha finished seventh at 189 and Jose Ortiz second at 171.
