Billy Rappo and John Staudenmayer (H.M. @ 171) are PIAA Class AAA wrestling champions.

The Council Rock South junior became the fourth Rappo brother since 2004 to claim a state crown, earning a 3-2 win over Parkland freshman Ethan Lizak in a tiebreaker Saturday at the Giant Center.

Staudenmayer, Plymouth Whitemarsh?s No. 1-ranked 171-pounder, orchestrated a 15-2 major decision over Neal Grudi (Spring Grove) to win his first state crown.

Staudenmayer, who in three tries had previously never advanced past the preliminary round of the main draw at states, was awestruck after the win.

?Oh my gosh, I can?t even explain this feeling right now,? he said. ?It hasn?t hit me yet. State champ.?

With the bout knotted 1-1 after regulation, Rappo escaped near heartbreak midway through the first OT period on a would-be takedown when he was ankle-picked by Lizak. Rappo then began the first of two 30-second tiebreak periods positioned on bottom, but leveraged a two-point reversal that proved to be the necessary points to achieve gold.

?Words can?t explain it,? said Rappo (43-2). ?Finally meeting up with my brothers and joining them in the party.?

Staudenmayer capped a dream season in which he went 43-0, won the prestigious Beast of the East tournament in Newark, Del., and, finally, earned a state championship. A combined 30 of his wins came by pin or technical fall. His final win capped a 48-match win streak that dates to March 11 of last year.
