Delbarton?s Dynamic Duo of Jeff Canfora (No.11 @ 135) and Devon Gobbo (No.14 @ 140) didn?t get what they were after at Boardwalk Hall on Sunday.

Neither was successful in winning a state wrestling championship ? but both might have done something equally difficult. Canfora (135) and Gobbo (140) arrived in Atlantic City with one goal in mind: Winning a state championship. Both lost in the winner?s bracket but then had the emotional resolve to recover enough to return to the mat and wound up wrestling back for third place.

?It was the hardest thing I have ever done,? said Canfora, who defeated Bergen Catholic?s Connor Melde in the third-place match in three overtimes, 2-1. ?I wanted to be a state champion ever since I was a little kid and I wasn?t able to. But I still had to come back and wrestle.?

?Obviously, I came here looking to win, but the semifinal match didn?t go my way,? Gobbo said. ?I?m happy with the way I battled, but I felt terrible after the semifinal match. But it is still my job to go out and represent myself and Delbarton in a good manner.?
