For Donny Longendyke (No. 1 @ HWT) Captures Second Minnesota State Title and many other topics visit

From day one of the 2010-11 season, coaches of and wrestlers on the White Bear Lake wrestling team were driven by a common goal: to return as a team to the Minnesota State High School Tournament.

Goal achieved. Then, instead of letting the unfortunate draw of competition against the top-ranked Apple Valley team deter them, the Bears forged ahead. After losing 12-66 in the first round to Apple Valley (scoring more points against the Eagles than any other team) they went on to earn two decisive victories and become state consolation champions.

The next day Meuwissen, Shepherd, Potter, Anderson, Tommy Longendyke, Bibeau, Kris Orloske* and Donny Longendyke went on to compete in the individual competition.

The 285-pound Class AAA showdown between Stillwater?s Horwath and White Bear Lake rival Donny Longendyke (No.1 @ HWT) capped this year?s tourney.

Few of the wrestling fanatics on hand at the outset had departed when the pair of Suburban East and Section 4AAA bulls took the mat late into the evening.

Horwath had dealt Longendyke, the defending state champion,*his lone setback in two seasons. That win came at the section meet just a week before the state tourney.

The Stillwater senior made quick work out of his first two opponents, pinning them both in the first period. Horwath blanked Sam Gaul from Rochester Century 5-0 in the semifinals to gain a berth in the finals.
