For Codey Combs (H.M. @ 152) Delaware?s 4-Time State Champ and many other topics visit

Faces both familiar and fresh wore the weary but satisfied smiles of the victor as each climbed to the top of the victory stand Saturday night.

The 55th annual DIAA Individual Wrestling Championships followed form in most weights but veered from expectation in a few, keeping a large audience riveted in the St. Mark?s gym.

After the last of the 14 champions had taken his bow, Delaware had another four-time champ, three more three-time champs, a repeat winner and some who enjoyed the sweet taste of revenge.

Sussex Central senior Codey Combs (H.M. @ 152) became the ninth four-time state champion and just the second from the Henlopen Conference, joining Randy Brown, who won two each at Laurel and Delmar from 1984-87. He was voted Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament by the coaches.

?It?s everyone?s dream,? said Combs, who could have just as easily been speaking for first-time winners.
