I would be fine with a mid-season rule change to fix this problem but with the tournament starting tomorrow I just dont think there is enough time for us to discuss a reasonable alternative and vote on it. If this had come up a week ago I'd be all for it.

I think for confrences and ncaas the scoring obviously needs to be different (not sure if that was included in the original rules or not)

Cool. I'm fine with the way it is also.

However, a 3rd placer does NOT score more points than a champ in a real tournament. The scoring system is designed to prevent that. That would mean 10 3rds could beat a team of 10 1sts.

I would like to see the format that we use today but then to add placement points to those match points. For example if a champ went Pin, T-Fall, M Dec, Dec in a tournament to take first, he would get his 18 points plus first place receives 10 points, second takes 7, third takes 5, fourth takes 3 and fifth takes one. Thats a nice blending of performance and placement.

    Not really what I meant.

What I meant was, in real life if you have a guy go out of a tournament early, just one guy, and he goes on a pinning rampage through the consolations, and comes back to take third, it is possible for him to score more team points than a guy who wins four, or five decisions, but takes first.

I think we're going to stick it out with how things are for this year to avoid getting down to the wire, and having someone go back and calculate their scores from UNO, Vegas, and Reno with the "new" rules, and find out that they would have made it in, and get upset.

Jensens, we WILL be using a different format for confrence/ncaa tourneys right?

    Yes.

Conference Champions will get you five bonus points.

During NCAA's, 1st place guys will win 8 bonus points, 2nd place guys will get 7 bonus points, so on and so forth, down to the 8th place guy who will get one bonus point.

I thought confrence champs were 10? And is 8 bonus points for 1st enough? Why dont we just do normal NCAA team scoring with advancement points and such for the ncaas, thatd be a lot of work with 16 people but with only two I dont think its that big of a deal and its probably the most accurate way of doing it since its how a real team would be scored.

If its the 8 point system you mentioned its possible for a 3rd place finisher to be worth more then the champion without even scoring bonus points.

If a guy lost first round and came back and took 3rd winning all matches by decision it would be worth 25 points under your system, where as a champion winning all matches by decision would get 23. (Also the 3rd place guy has more chances to score bonus as he has 7 matches to the champions 5, and likely less stiff competition).

I know this scenario isnt very likely but it is possible. Lets take a more plausible scenario where a guy loses in the quarters and ends up taking 3rd thats still 22 points versus 23 for the champ... I dont think thats enough seperation.

Under NCAA scoring rules (using my first example) the 1st place guy would get 20 points and the 3rd place guy would get 13, this makes a lot more sense to me.

The 3 points for dec 4 points for major ect ect makes perfect sense during the regular season (and maybe during confrence tournies, since they are all different sizes tournament style scoring might not be accurate Im not sure) but come ncaas I think we should run it like the actual tourney.
