Default Halfway Point: Fantasy League Suggestions

Figure some issues we think about during the beginning and middle of the season get overshadowed by some of the issues that come to light at the end of the season. Here were a few that I've thought about for next season.

    1. Tournament scoring. Still need to try and get this right. While posting the scored competitions before the draft puts the onus on the person to draft according to schedule, it didn't necessarily work out according to plan this year. It's too difficult to tell which tourney's will be tough in the coming year and which will be down. I think we need to make a rule that all tourney's are scored....and designate a list of unscored tourneys. A little leg work would need to be done....but there were some scored tourney's this year that were by far weaker than a few unscored tourneys. I don't want to put too much work on the commish....but....this is a good segway into my next one.

    2. Rotate the commish. Either that, or each person could be responsible for a week of result compilation. I don't think Jensen really minds all that much....cause he pretty much dorks out on every wrestling result as it is, but I think we would all be willing to assist with the heavy lifting.

    3. Stat Awards. I think we should annualize a few awards. The Broken Clock (given to the person who wins the most weeks.....a broken clock is right twice a day). The Heineken(given to the person who finishes last in our league.....inspired the Heineken commercial where the guy drafts an injured player. His friend gives him a beer and says, "atleast you'll have one good draft this year"). The Fodge (half fantasy/ half Hodge...most scored falls for the year). The Ace (the person who has the most All Americans on their roster....not starting squad...but roster at end of the year). The Tom Brady (given to the person with the wrestler that wrestles the least # of matches but must wrestle atleast 1). We should also honor the wrestler who scores the most points for the year.

Jensen- I got some pretty good analytical skills with excel and data. If it's all there, I could help.

    4. LoSt has to draft Hashimoto every year.
I wish I could kick Matt Dragon in the balls. In his Dragonballz.

I've got all of this year's results saved in an Excel sheet. If you want it sent to you so you can dork out with it just let me know.

Which tournaments are scored and which aren't is definitely something I want to continue to refine.

The back up rules are things I want to keep working on too. My intention for the rule this year wound up being a little different than how we interpreted it, specifically the back up rule for tournaments.

We've been running on the idea that you aren't allowed to use back ups for tournaments and if your starter is injured then you're just screwed.

My actual original intention was to allow back ups to be used but you would have to start that back up to get the points and not just start your guy and then automatically get the back up points like you would in duals.

I think I may ditch the you don't get points if your wrestler bumps up in a dual rule too.

You could just assign people to provide results for each conference.

The thing that I would part with the quickest in terms of my Commisioner duties would be running the draft and even that only took like 3 or 4 days this year in comparison with last year's 10.

Running down scores and inputting them into Excel doesn't take that long, and as Grips intimates I do kind of enjoy it a little bit.

I think you had a little help with the draft. It is a big pain in the ass though. It would help if we could just have a big conference call or set aside a 4 hour block of time and just burn through it.

I certainly did, and the help was very much appreciated.

That was my original plan last year, but it didn't come even remotely close to working out.

Just wishful thinking on getting everyone together at one time.

I was just busting your balls a little on the draft.

This would be the way to go for sure. I think the way to do this, as with anything, is advanced planning. Set a 10pm draft time in early september.....That is the draft time....if you can't make it....pre rank your wrestlers.

I donk out on this stuff all the time I'd be willing to help with whatever is needed including the draft.

I agree the tournament thing needs to be refined for next year.

Im still against scoring all tournaments, but I do think that EVERY win over a ranked wrestler should be counted as points, no matter what tourney or event.

The backup rule probably could be refined a little more as well, I think we should draft a "constitution" of sorts that lays out all the specifics of the rules we have ironed out so far (because there are a LOT of situations that Jensens has made rulings on that arent covered in the original rules, so those situations should be added).

Another thing I'd like to see is the Outstanding Wrestler of the big 4 tournies and conferences+ national duals+NCAAS getting a 5 point bonus or something along those lines.

I really enjoy this thing and think its a lot of fun
