My bad. So I'd say you'd get the 157 backup's points until he wrestles 149 (if at all). I should have used Hashimoto. He hasn't wrestled at all this season, so no one gets the Northern Colorado 149's points until Hashimoto is in.

I just think there needs to be a way that every situation can be covered under a single rule. Obviously, no backup points is one way. This idea might be another. And all they have to do is wrestle one match at a weight. It could be unattached at an open tournament, even a wrestle-off.

Yeah, this kinser deal is some iffy stuff per guidlines, drafted him at 49, he's wrestled at 57, Coughlin was drafted at 57, so I used him in the flex spot, in case he wrestled 49 and or 57.....

Feist is just a weird situation all around, but he IS a 197 pounder thats what he has been weighing in at thats what he was projected at and he has wrestled there. I drafted him two weights down but he moved up and I adjusted for that, the only reason its weird is because he has bumped up to heavyweight for a few matches since stanford does not currently have a heavyweight.

Kinser by all indications is going 157 and Trusty is continuing to score points for a 149 pound backup. I would have no problem with Trusty scoring points at 157 since that is where kinser by all indications is staying for the year, and thats what I was arguing for, of course today I found out that Coughlin was in fact drafted so that isnt an option...

To be honest though considering Kinser was a 14th round round pick and Trusty has won like three of the four weeks so far I dont feel all that bad.

As far as the backup rule goes I am with Mojo on this one, I got majorly shafted with some guys not wrestling when they were supposed to last year and if I'd been able to automatically score their backup it would have made life much easier. Additionally, like Mojo said it gives you a chance to get to know some wrestlers you might not find out about otherwise.

Backups for duals and not for tournies is how it should stay.

I actually thought the whole reason for the supplemental was just for this situation where guys had drafted and then realized that their guy was injured, not wrestling at that weight or lost there spot. Otherwise, if we were always going to get their back-up, what would be the point of the supplemental draft.

I for one don't think its a greek tragedy if someone has to forfeit their weight a couple of times until the supplemental because they have an issue at a certain weight. Some of you guys will go the whole season without making a trade and that is when they would come in handy.

You get 15 guys, you get three additional in the supplemental draft and you can always trade. What is the problem with you having to take a forfeit at a weight if you can't fill it for a couple of weeks?

My source from IU has Kinser sitting on his butt til he gets to 149 -that's why I have flexed him every week with Coughlin since I didn't want to take advantage of the back up rule -When Coughlin beat Becker his freshman year and Goldman said ''no way'' he cut down to 149 -now he's going to end up in the bench ? I thought Goldman was just being consistent in his philosophy-now I don't know what to think .

Actually I know how to put an end to all of this pretty easily... I was digging around and I saw this:

    Matt Coughlin vs. Kurt Kinser
With Team Escobedo leading 16-13, it all came down to the marquee match-up of the night; pitting 2007 All-American Matt Coughlin versus NCAA Qualifier Kurt Kinser in a 157-pound contest. There was little action early on. Both Hoosiers were attempting to gain upper body control, causing a stalemate. In fitting fashion, the match eventually was decided in an overtime period. Coughlin nearly got a takedown with five seconds left in regulation, but Kinser fended it off to force the extra time. The first seven minutes weren't enough to determine a winner, but it only took Kinser 25 seconds in OT to claim the win. Kinser converted a front headlock into a takedown on the very edge of the mat. Kinser's win knotted the team score at 16-16 for the night.

Kinser has already beaten Coughlin in a wrestleoff for the 157 spot... he is also undefeated on the year. Why on earth would he sit out and drop down to 149 when he has wrestled off for the spot and won? He also placed ahead of coughlin at the MSU open, the spot should be his to lose.

the same thing happened 2 years ago when Coughlin beat Becker -Goldman made Coughlin -the #1 nationally ranked 160 lber cut to 149 -then made him go 165 last year -I think Kinser is the better wrestler but I'm just looking at things from Matt's point of view -he has jumped through every hoop Goldman has asked him to and his reward -if there is a wrestle off -is to ride the Bench ? Plus Kinser certified at 149 -no way Matt could get back down there , now .
I've known the Coughlin family for years ever since Matt's days at Mater Dei and I occasionally stay in touch -that's my source .
