Default Rule Changes for Next Year

Hey Brothers, I was sitting here 1st basking in the after glow of my son going 11 and 1 and taking a silver medal in a huge national youth dual tourney this weekend, and then having that nice feeling obliterated (almost) after reading the news about Cal Bakersfield. Then this thought came to me: What if we could pick 2 or 3 guys from D2 and/or D3 in the draft next year? One of the best things about the fantasy league is that it pushes/forces us to study a much broader spectrum of college wrestling, instead of just our 1 or 2 favorite teams and maybe their rivals and conference foes.

I can tell you for sure that since we started this most excellent diversion, I know alot more about teams and individuals around the country than I did before, even having been an assistant coach on two D1 schools. Adding D2/D3 into the mix would help us to be even more knowleable. Just trying to follow Brother Stiffy's season has helped me to know more about some D2 teams that I had not heard of before. Not suggesting that we open up the Draft to selecting as many lower division schools as we would want, that would create some major hassles, like tournament selection and such. But we could utilize D2 conferences and Nationals like we use conference tournys now. What do you [open-minded ] brothers think?

The most I would consider doing for D2 guys is to score their points if they wrestle in any of the early open tournaments that we count.

Other than that, unfortunately I'm going to have to say no.

One change I am definitely going to implement next year is how we do the draft order in reference to keepers and non keepers as the way we do it now leads to the possibility of you getting really screwed if you don't keep a guy.

The way we'll do it next year will stay the same until everyone gets two guys. Non keepers will get two picks and then keepers will fill in. It will look like this...

    Round 1
    1. Non Keeper 1
    2. Non Keeper 2
    3. Non Keeper 3
    4. Non Keeper 4
    5. Non Keeper 4
    6. Non Keeper 3
    7. Non Keeper 2
    8. Non Keeper 1

    Round 2
    1. Keeper 1
    2. Keeper 2
    3. Keeper 3
    4. Keeper 4
    5. Keeper 5
    6. Keeper 6
    7. Keeper 7
    8. Keeper 8
    9. Keeper 9
    10. Keeper 10

Round 3 (In the past we would do a full random redraw here, we're going to do things like this next year)
    1. Non Keeper 1
    2. Non Keeper 2
    3. Non Keeper 3
    4. Non Keeper 4
    5. Keeper 1
    6. Keeper 2

And so on. Keeper order will just tack right on to the end of the non keeper order at the start of Round 3.

First -Congrats to your son -that is a LOT of matches-I wanted to add an additional supp around now for guys decimated by injuries -a 2 round voluntary where you would have to give up another starter for the guy you pick-set a time -a 5 minute time limit and BOOM-done -and we would not have to listen to LoSt bitch about his 157's -the Div 2 and 3 might have some logistical problems i.e.-when their tournaments are , etc . But I am always open to change .

Thank you Brother Gofer and Brother Russ! That dual tournment-The Wildwood National Youth Duals,Wildwood, NJ. was a BITCH! 3 pools of 8 teams each from PA, Jersey, VA, NY, Mass, Maryland, Conn, Mich. Ohio. 2 matches Fri. nite, 7 on Sat and 3 on Sun.! Des was 11-1 with 5 pins and only loss was to 5x MD champ 6-0. Most amazing part was that he is a 160 lber but had to wrestle at 177 because the next weight down was 155! I dont believe in cutting weight so he wrestled were he was. Massive proud of the boy I am!!!

    Brother Shane,
All due respect for you goes without question my friend. I would like to know, however, your thoughts on the idea, beyond just "no", if you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks.

The two reasons why I hesitate to say yes are that it would be more work for me, and just a matter of level of competition.

As always though if we can get a majority of people who say yes they want it, then I can be amenable to changing my mind.
