Default 2009-2010 Fantasy League Rules Rough Draft

Another project that I'm going to be looking to get started on here soon. I'll be drawing from rules that we utilized last year along with those that have been suggested.

Feedback from returnees/possible new people will obviously be encouraged.

I think the returning champ should start the season with 100 points

Rules in a rough draft format.

I say again, feedback from those planning on returning and those possibly interested in joining up is definitely encouraged.

Returning Rules

1. 14 teams in the league. 15 wrestlers per team. You'll start 11 wrestlers per week, one guy at each weight from 125-285 and then a "flex" guy from any weight you choose who will be eligible to score points at whatever weight he wrestles.

2. There isn't going to be head to head during the regular season. The standings will go strictly by total points scored.

The regular season will run up through Conferences. After Conferences the 4 highest scoring teams will advance to the finals during NCAA's, and we're also going to take two wild cards this year.

These wild cards will be the two highest scoring teams during Conference week that wouldn't already be going to the next round anyway. Come NCAA's I'll wipe the scores clean and it'll be a 6 way scramble for the championship.

3. 3 points for a win by decision, 4 for a major, 5 for a tech with back's and 6 for a pin. Same as we've done the last two years.

4. All team dual meets still count. From last year we'll be bringing back the All Star Match (including exhibitions not just the main event this time), Kauffman Brand, Vegas, Reno, Midlands, Penn State Open, Michigan State Open, Body Bar Invitational, and the Navy Classic.

We will definitely be adding the the OK Gold/Brockport tournament this year, other additions will remain up in the air.

5. There will be bonus points available for wrestlers that make the finals at some of the tournaments listed above. A full list of which tournaments get bonus will be generated later. Bonus will still probably be 10 for a champ and 5 for a 2nd.

6. Conference Champ gets 16 bonus points, Conference 2nd gets 12. NCAA time your wrestler's AA placement points will count as their bonus.

7. Trades are permitted, free agency is not. A trading deadline will be put into place this year, probably something like 2/1.

8. Supplemental Draft will be back in its same 3 round format.

Possible New Stuff

1. Keeper Rules: Keeper option will be available next year, but I'm considering possibly tweaking it a little bit. No matter what we do, wrestlers who were kept last year will not be eligible to be kept this year. Other than that we may keep things the same, or as I hinted at in the other recent thread we may have everyone keep a guy and just do a 14 round draft.

2. No more if your guy bumps up a weight in a dual meet and still wrestles you don't get any points. If your guy wrestles and wins in a dual meet you get his points. If he loses and his back up wins, no points.

3. If your guy doesn't wrestle and his back up steps in and win you will still get the points from the back up assuming someone already doesn't have the back up.

3. Back Ups will be eligible for use in tournaments this year. I meant to let them be eligible last year but didn't state it explicitly enough. To get points at a tournament though you must explicitly name the back up as your scorer in your line up for that week. This is different from dual meets where you get back up points automatically.

4. Next year, if your wrestler beats another guy ranked in the Intermat Top 20 at a tournament you will get points even if its at a tournament that we don't officially score. He will only get points from the match against the top 20 guy.

This is it for now off the top of my head, any suggestions or anything that I forgot please point it out.

my rule

The only other thing I'd really push for right now is changing the NCAAs to tournament scoring format.

Also as far as finalist bonuses for tournies, I dont think we should add any more to the list of tournies that get them from last year. If anything I would say that maybe we should limit it to just the Scuffle and Midlands, although CKLV is probably good enough as well.

I would consider doing tournament scoring format for just NCAA's, and probably conferences as well.

The reason I've been hesitant to commit to it since you brought it up was because I thought you wanted to do it for every tournament.

If you were going to make the switch, it would probably make sense for only NCAA's, because it wouldn't have an effect on the regular season like conferences would. Regarding the proposed keeper rule, I'm not sure I like it as I understand it to be written. It sounds like either I would only get 14 wrestlers, or get an extra pick at the end of draft. What that essentially amounts to is that all the people returning to the league would get two first round picks (their keeper + their actual first round pick) to my one (and whoever else is new). Is my understanding correct?

If we did things like we did this year, those individuals that were keeping people wouldn't get to make a pick until those not keeping people got to pick two wrestlers.

This past year we had four guys who didn't keep people. Those four got to make the first eight picks of the draft (two per each team) then the ten people keeping wrestlers all made one pick so everyone had two guys. After that the draft proceeded like normal.

These were our first eight picks last year.

1. ISU: Jake Herbert
2. Dart: Nick Marable
3. Wiltz: Jay Borschel
4. Jensen: Mike Pucillo
5. Jensen: Mike Poeta
6. Wiltz: Matt Kyler
7. Dart: Kyle Massey
8. ISU: Dan Vallimont

As of right now I'm leaning towards doing it like this again.
