When I was coaching -the first place had a no cut rule in Basketball until high school-so I was fighting for the same athletes-rather than beg some kid to wrestle I went to detention and got about 4 bad asses and offered them a new start. Set some rules-they followed them or they were gone-was best man at 2 of them;s weddings -one is in prison and the other got shot in a drive by-but all kids need a chance and a little discipline and one person to care about them and have their backs--I had 3 rules -go to class-NO fighting-come to practice-if someone wants to fight you -invite them to the wrestling room-a teacher picks on you -I got your back-IF you are right.
Amazing the difference you can make in a kids life -any kids.
EVEN the gunny who was a dick-you remember him-maybe you hating him got you through a few things. I REALLY think you NEED to find time to be a lay coach. You could help so many kids !! AND you will never forget your time as a coach-NEVER.
