Grapplefan If ncaa said to be d1 had to have ten mens sports might loss a few colleges but a lot more would add sports to stay d1.2nd If colleges want fans need more meets at home.Plus very good points Karamazov

In fact my family and friends know that they better not bring up Title IX around me. What I do now is try to talk to people about it in different ways. My neighbor played club mens soccer at the university of mn. His wife played varsity soccer at the same school. One day I asked them why they thought every public college in mn had a varsity womens soccer team and not one public school in mn had a varsity men's program. It is amazing how well the Title IX propaganda is. They could not admit it was because of Title IX. I said it most be because more girls are interested in soccer in mn than boys. they had no retort.

In fact I have no doubt that if the NCAA were to decrease the minimum number of sports to be division one Marquette would have mens basketball and thats it.

This has been defeated at the NCAA. RPI and h\Hopkins lobbied their participation in hockey and lacrosse to defeat the proposal. Marquette continues to be allowed Div I basketball because the venue meets the minimium size criteria set by the NCAA.
This thread has degenerated into a title IX thread. While I have no doubt Title IX is the main reason for college wrestling be killed. I also want to say if you think that Title IX isn't to blame for the demise of college wrestling you are just stupid or you haven't been paying attention.

I wanted to talk about things that college wrestling could change.
    1) improve the marketing of college wrestling. The big 10 network has been great for wrestling. Do you think it is a coincidence that the Big 10 is the best wrestling conference.

    2) Get the NCAA to increase the number of mininmum sports for div 1. The big conferences need to do this. It is absolutely crazy that major universities are offering 5 mens sports.

So you decided to call me stupid, even though I've served on the athletic council and listened to decisions being made in the context of title ix.

Market away, if there are no programs left there will be nothing to market.

If I'm stupid, please make sure you post correct facts. Five sports is not the NCAA minimum for men's teams to stay in Div I.

Does anyone beside wrestling people watch wrestling on the Big 10 network? They have Big 10 softball too, and I don't watch it.

Terp I think Kar is saying yes title 9 is to blame for the demise of college wrestling but short of getting rid of title nine (which would be great) kar is saying some things that could be done to help college wrestling

Terp you are being a little defensive. I wasn't arguing with you one bit. I agree with you. Title IX is to blame. Anyone who doesn't think Title IX is to blame is the one I am calling stupid. But with that said, I would like to see the wrestling community make some changes in order to market the sport better. As far as the 5 sport thing I was using hyperbole to show that many athletic departments would like to field as few mens sports as possible. Like my alma mater Marquette.

Terp I want to address the stupid thing again. This is a quote on Del State from Donna Lopiano. Donna Lopiano reiterated last week in her talk at Western New England College, wrestling's demise isn't because of Title IX. It just is not as popular of a sport any more.

I am calling people who believe her stupid. I am also calling anyone who lets her get away with what she is saying stupid. As far as Donna Lopiano and the WSF they are not stupid. They know what they are doing and I think they enjoy the demise of college wrestling. They would love to take down football too but will settle for wrestling.
