Director of Media Relations Jason Bryant to leave NWCA/InterMat

After three years as the Director of Media Relations for the National Wrestling Coaches Association and the lead writer/webmaster for InterMat, Jason Bryant has announced he will be leaving the association and will be accepting a position with Media Sports Productions, the parent company of the Wrestling 411 TV show headquartered in Minneapolis.

“I’ve been presented with a unique opportunity to continue moving my career forward in journalism and broadcasting, and it’s something I’ve thought long and hard about and ultimately, I feel taking this step forward is vital to my goals and dreams,” said Bryant.

Since arriving at the NWCA in 2005 after an eight-year run as a clerk, copy editor, page designer and wrestling beat writer at the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press, Bryant, 28, has managed the day-to-day operations of the web site, compiled and posted thousands of college wrestling tournaments and events, covered the nation’s top wrestling events, coordinated the Division I wrestling rankings and has lent a consistent level of professionalism and integrity to the wrestling media.

“What Jason has been able to do with InterMat really raised the bar,” said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. “We’re sad to see him leave, because he’s done a great job, but we stand behind him in his decision to move forward in his career with his ultimate goals. He’s been a great asset to us and I’m sure we will still maintain a professional working relationship after he leaves.”

A recipient of W.I.N.’s Wrestling Journalist of the Year and Amateur Wrestling News’ Bob Dellinger Wrestling Writer of the Year Award, along with the National Wrestling Media Association’s Wrestling Web Site of the Year, Bryant was instrumental in InterMat being a top source on the web for wrestling news, results and recruiting information.

“The NWCA took a chance and, at least for me, it paid off,” he continued. “The staff at the NWCA is first-class and they have been great people to work with and great friends as well. I’ll still be involved with wrestling and I support the great work the office does in promoting and protecting the sport of wrestling.”

The NWCA has started a national search to find Bryant’s successor. Fundamental prerequisites are college degree, journalism/public relations experience, high level of wrestling knowledge and web experience. I had a blast with InterMat and they were good people to work for. More than a few of the posters here also had some first-hand input into making the site reinvent itself.

I think who comes in behind me will be fine, I'm writing out the processes for the next few weeks so everything will be documented ...

As far as the communist thing goes ... I'll still be following the protocol and media decorum and so will the one coming into the position.
