I know when Brands was the strength and conditioning coach he wasn't to popular with some of the female athletes on campus. They thought his workouts were a little to intense. I think they serve for several different sports year round.
I will edit this by saying: Rumor had it when I was on campus I heard some stuff about Brands being a little to intense while running some workouts.

The athletic department who hires usually announces before the dept. who is losing someone, so I doubt he is headed to Stanford. As far as Wes "fitting the mold," don't forget that Stanford's AD used to be AD at Iowa. It would not be weird to see an Iowa guy at Stanford.
I'm fully aware of who Bowlsby is and where he came from. However, I'll stick to my original comment that Hand does not fit the Stanford mold.
Stanford has different (not necessarily higher) requirements for a coach. Bowlsby may love to get an Iowa guy in the wrestling room, but I doubt Bowlsby has full discretion over the hire.

What exactly are you saying about Wes Hand that he doesn't fit the "mold?" And, um, an AD wouldn't have full discretion over a hire?

I just don't think Hand fits the Stanford mold. I may be wrong and he may already be locked in as the head coach. Maybe they're waiting for his return from the University World Games to make the announcement. I don't know. However, I'd still be surprised if Stanford hired Hand, even with Bowlsby as the AD.
And yes, an AD, especially at a place like Stanford (or Harvard or the Academies) answers to many people on hires. So, no, Bowlsby does not have full discretion on hiring head coaches. I'm sure Bowlsby has the largest input, but not full discretion.
So what, in your opinion, does that "Stanford mold" (sounds like a disease, LOL) consist of? Do you mean the academic standards? Or is there a particular campus culture at Stanford that is different from other schools with wrestling?
I'm not trying to dispute what you're saying about Hand, but I honestly don't understand where you are coming from with this statement. If you could try to explain it a bit, it would be easier to evaluate Hand's possible fit or lack of.

Funny, I mentioned this a friend of mine who has worked as an associate AD at a few of those places, and she laughed out loud at that assertion.
I am pretty sure you're insulting Wes when you're saying he doesn't fit the Stanford mold, and all I can get from this is that you don't know anything about Wes when you say he doesn't fit the mold. What, too Midwestern? Or is it that he was educated at a state school? I assume that heavyweights fit the Stanford mold, since the previous coach was a hwt. And educated at a state school... hmmm. Say exactly what you mean about Wes, and quit being vague. If you're going to insult him, do it. Don't use the term "Stanford mold" and then refuse to explain what you mean.
