Well you have to place in within the top 4 at the first 2 to go to states. I see with college its only conferences and nationals. So what do you have to place at conferences to go to nationals? |

Conference champs will go but then it will be decided based on your overall record, your record against ranked wrestlers and their record against ranked wrestlers. A few bones will get tossed to those that were injured a good part of the season.

| NCAA Champ ![]() | Ryou meant that only conference champs will be an automatic bid. A total of (I think it's been upped to this) 360 wrestlers will be at nationals so the rest will be chosen by the method Ryou described. Basically, it's gonna be more like basketball. Conference champs and then the best of the rest. |

| Round of 12 | It used to be like this BIG 10 - Top 7 Qualifiers at each weight plus 2 wildcards. The 2 wildcards had to place 8th at their respective weight class BIG 12 - Top 3 at each weight class plus 10 wildcards. They say that it was the top 2 plus wildcards, but name me one time in the past 8 years when a 3rd placer didn't go to nationals. SOCON- Champion, pluse a few wildcards ACC - Champion, plus a few wildcards CAA - 1st and 2nd place plus a few wildcards MAC - Champion, plus a few wildcards PAC-10 - Top 3, plus quite a few wildcards EIWA - Top 4, plus a few wildcards EWL - Top 3, plus a few wildcards East Regional - Champions, then only one wildcard West Regional - Champions, plus only 3 to 4 wildcards Something like that. I'd be more precise on number of wildcards, but it does change from time to time depending on how well the wrestlers from the conference did at nationals. I see the NEW qualifying system having it's pros and it's cons. The pro's will be that guys like Craig Henning won't miss out on nationals, just because of one bad tournament. The con's will be that guys like Jason Johnstone will miss out on the tournament, right after having a fantastic tournament at their conference meet.

Someone that gets hot a conference meet will have likely beaten some good wrestlers and may just get one of those bones. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out next year.
