Electric!! Which is more confusing: Folkstyle or Freestyle?

After reading rockwells most recent post on my freestyle thread I was about to start trying to refute him point by point, but I thought a show of hands might be a better indicator.

In your opinion, what is a more confusing style of wrestling?

Who knows, maybe I am just mentally different, but folkstyle has always seemed extremely simple and straight forward as far as the actual scoring goes, while freestyle not only changes every other year, but changes in ways that make it less appealing and more confusing.

freestyle is more confusing and less interesting.

I hate to say it but Freestyle is more confusing. I was much better at freesytle and greco than I was at folkstyle and I enjoyed them more as well, however I have not been involved much in the past 8 years and I can hardly understand the sport/scoring anymore.

I don't think I can be objective about this. I have been around folkstyle and understood it for years, but I just am now paying any attention to freestyle.

Freestyle is more confusing, but not necessarily less exciting. When the referees are struggling with how a situation should be scored, it's obviously going to be considered more confusing, as well as the forced situations like the clinch.

If one has at least half a brain, neither style should be particularly confusing.

I'm very biased because I've been deeply involved in folkstyle for many years and have only marginally followed freestyle. That said, I still think that the scoring in folkstyle is more clear cut and easier to follow. One official can make the call and is almost always correct. Even if there were "officiating by committee" in folkstyle, I doubt you'd get as much difference of opinion as you do in freestyle. And the clinch? Forget it.

I also like that there is more emphasis on offensive wrestling in the bottom position in folkstyle. The bottom man is stalling if he is not trying to improve his position in folkstyle. In freestyle, he only has to present himself and block the top man's moves (correct me if I'm wrong about this).

FILA radically changes the rules so often for freestyle and greco that they become almost different sports over time. There is hardly any way to compare freestyle wrestlers today with those of just 10 years ago.

Greco was an abomination at the last Olympics. The Eastern European countries, and Russia, have essentially eliminated conditioning as a factor in both styles.

I did a LOT of freestyle back in the day. Three 3 minute periods and not too much confusion on the mat. And about the only way I could hang with good wrestlers was conditioning because, Lord knows, I wasn't very gifted as an athlete!!
