What is more confusing language English or French?

We are obviously less confused by the style we know better and the style that is easier to follow in the US.

How in the world anyone can think folkstyle is more confusing is beyond me, unless they are from a foreign country and have never wrestled/seen folkstyle before. I can't believe this is honestly a discussion.

I wrestled under the "new rules" for several years so I don't find them confusing... except that FILA keeps changing the specifics of the clinch; that's annoying. I remember warming up for a national championship while the refs were explaining the new interpretation of the clinch rules. I also think the tiebreaker rules are unnecessarily complex- just make it last point wins and be done with it.

I've never wrestled folkstyle; just kind of learned by watching matches. The one thing that confuses/annoys the crap out of me is how takedowns are scored sometimes. How is it that holding someone close to a pinning position scores no points because they are hanging onto your ankle or something, but grab both of a person's ankles and you have the takedown even if you're not really on top? Oh, that and the tiebreakers, which I don't quite get. Why not just wrestle an unlimited OT, first point wins?

You don't need a poll. We can all tell you that you are.....

Folkstyle had added riding time, taken it away, made it so you can only earn one point. Some tournaments have it, some don't, maybe they all do now..... talk about confusing.
Riding time went out at high school in about 1973. Went from 2 points to 1 at college in the late seventies. All NCAA events now have to have riding time, thus the reason the Midlands is again popular.

Sorry, but FILA changes the periods from three 3 minutes, to two 3 minutes, to one 5 minute, to the current three mini matches. Adds all of the clinch stuff, takes it away. Greco was a fiasco last year. Conditioning is not longer a real factor in FILA.

If you understand that the fundamental concept of our folkstyle is control, a lot of it then makes sense. You have to have control to score points, you don't have to in freestyle.

The overtimes go on and on to try to be as "fair" as possible. Used to be (back in the day) a three minute overtime period. But that was back when bouts were 9 minutes too. Then referees decisions, then they went to a list of criteria. Tried to introduce the rideout, which people then complained about.

I'd rather watch two guys wrestle for 25 minutes and actually SETTLE the match one way or another, then see a referee grabbing a ball determine the outcome. I guess thats just me though
