Apple Valley wrestler Matt Mincey has given a verbal commitment to attend and wrestle for the University of Minnesota in 2008-2009.

Mincey won his second Minnesota high school state title this year as a junior. He completed the season with a perfect 49-0 record and is 125-23 in his career. Mincey placed fourth as a freshman.

He placed third at this year's NHSCA Junior Nationals and he also placed third in 2006 at the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals.

Mincey is a 2007 Guillotine Academic All-State - Second Team wrestler.

WIN Magazine ranks Mincey as the number eleven 125 pound high school wrestler in the nation. Intermat ranks Mincey as the number six 125 pound junior in the nation.

curious how it doesn't say that he received a scholarship...is he walking on?

it is start to seem crowded down there at the lower weights but i suppose he still has his senior year and then a redshirt year...hell, he will probably come out in college at 141...

Kids grow and its easier for them to come in as 125lbers and become 141 or 149lbers. I wrestled 112lbs as a senior in high school and wrestled 141 as a senior in college, there were also a few other guys like that on my college team.

I came out of highschool at 126 and was cutting down to 112 during my senior season...i left college weighing 132 and only wrestled my freshman year...it was strange how after i quit trying to cut weight, I just stabilized even though I was still working out...I think Mincey will be pegged as a 133 to 141...
