    Academic, community service awards presented at President's Cup Brunch

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The women's tennis and men's cross country teams earned the President's Cup Team GPA Awards for the highest cumulative grade-point average over the past two semesters on Sunday at the 13th annual President's Cup Brunch at the Riggs Alumni Center.

    The event was co-sponsored by the M Club and the Terrapin Club.

    University President Dr. C.D. Mote Jr. was on hand to present the team GPA awards. The women's tennis team won for the second time since the inception of the award in 1997, posting a team GPA of 3.52. The cross country team won for the fourth time in 13 years with a mark of 3.21.

    The gymnastics and men's swimming and diving teams earned honors in the CHAMPS/Lifeskills Cup program. That award symbolizes the five categories emphasized by the program - academic excellence, athletic excellence, career development, personal development and community service.

    A number of other awards for community service, athletics achievement and academic achievement were presented at the brunch:

    James H. Kehoe Award - Marissa Coleman (Women's Basketball)

    Silvester Watch - Hudson Taylor (Wrestling)
    Athlete Who Typifies the Best in College Athletics


    Maryland Watch - Darrius Heyward-Bey (Football)
    Suzanne Tyler Award - Kristi Toliver (Women's Basketball) & Susie Rowe (Field Hockey)
    Geary F. Eppley Award - John Closs (Men's Swimming)
    Charles H Beebe Jr. Award - Katie Rogus (Women's Track & Field)

    ICA Community Service Awards (Student-athletes who excelled in public service to the community) - Alicia Grater (Field Hockey), Margaux Meeks (Gymnastics), Stephanie Ragheb (Water Polo), Nina Rossi (Women's Swimming), Sarah Scholl (Field Hockey), James Smith (Football), Blaise Stanicic (Water Polo), Nathan Steelman (Baseball), Jordan Steffy (Football), Hudson Taylor (Wrestling)

    Better be careful there Terp. Taylor is going to throw his back out carrying all of those awards.

    I offered to haul them in my truck......

    Hudson is a great face for our program on campus. He helps to cast wrestling in a good light.

    If he has another good year he may win the first Best Male Athlete award by a wrestler since Jim Guzzio in 1997.....

    No card tricks at the ceremony, but the guy can act, do tricks, sing, and isn't too bad on the mat either. Kid's got skills....
