Art Matori and Jerry Colangelo were the deep pocket players. The firestorm this caused also had an effect. The powers that be had no clue that this would be so controversial and were overwhelmed with the calls, e-mails, etc..

Matori can be e-mailed through his club. http://www.sunkistkids.org/ His daughter does a lot of the work for the club. She is a VERY nice person. I don't know about Jerry. I suspect he gets a lot of e-mails so it's hard to say whether he'd ever see such a thing.

This is great news! The only team from the West that has won a national championship in wrestling (Div. I); what a shame it would be to let this program expire. I will definitely send an email of thanks. I wish the team good luck in the future. This is weird because I was just talking to one of my co-workers (an ASU and Iowa graduate) about ASU. He had his picture taken with Bobby Douglas in 1988 the year they won their national championship. The picture was arranged through Gable. My co-worker said that Bobby was extremely gracious and humble; a very nice man. He told me that if he had a son (which he doesn't...he has 3 girls!), that he would definitely want him to wrestle for Coach Douglas. I should probably Google it or something, but does anybody know what Coach Douglas is up to now? Quote:

By the way, this is not the first time that I've heard of Jerry Colangelo being incredibly generous. He was instrumental in getting the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame off the ground, and a few other times where he has been privately generous.

The way you can thank these men is by supporting ASU wrestling. We need to get people out to watch the matches, ticket sales need to be elevated. To keep this program going everyone who loves wrestling needs to show support.
